A Smile : Squared
It is estimated Americans throw out 50 million pounds of plastic from toothbrushes alone each year; a wasteful and frightening amount. In 2010, during a trip to Central America founder of Smile Squared, Eric Cope, saw a dramatic need for increased dental care in certain regions of the globe, as well as a 'greener' alternative to the regular plastic brushes we are all too familiar with. He began developing a more environmentally friendly toothbrush, featuring a handcrafted, biodegradable bamboo handle and bristles all packaged in a 100 percent recyclable box. What's more, for every toothbrush bought Smile Squared donates one to a child in need. Bamboo offers a more sustainable alternative to this necessary item everyone uses, or could use. Their mission is simple: Centred around their 'Buy One, Give One' philosophy, Smile Squared shows that even a small item, such as a toothbrush can have a big impact on the world, both environmentally and by helping to make a difference in the lives of others.
