Homemade Mosquito Repellent

HomemadeMosquitoRepellent.jpg

Because spring comes with mosquitoes. And if you're interested in experimenting with homemade repellents, here are two tried and tested recipes.

1/4 cup organic vegetable oil mixed with these essential oils (mix and store in a small spray bottle)

8 drops cedar
5 drops eucalyptus
4 drops lavender
2 drops rosemary
2 drops juniper
1 drop peppermint
5 drops citronella (or lemongrass)
1 drop clove

Another recipe uses much simpler ingredients, so the expense in making it is minimal. Mince a few cloves of garlic then cover with mineral oil. Allow it to sit for at least 24 hours. Next you take 1-2 teaspoons of just the oil and mix it with 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Strain through a cheesecloth and pour into a spray bottle. Shake well before each use. The downside? You may also repel friends.
