'Foodscaping' or edible landscaping is a concept that is now taking over the classic 'picture perfect lawn' mentality. In short, foodscaping replaces lawns with something edible. Whether it be fruit trees, vegetables, herbs or the combination. This concept is driven not solely by peoples' desire to reduce food bills but also for a certainty their food is organic with no unnecessary chemicals and pesticides. The concept encourages people to start small - each household to plant a square yard of something edible, where neighbours can then consult and plan what each will grow so they can trade and exchange fresh produce. For the urban dwellers this means not only dramatically cutting the food bill in half, but also cutting the supermarket commute from 24 minutes to 24 feet into your back garden. Food for thought.
