Situated on 10-acres of farmland, hop gardens and orchards sits Crannog Brewery; Canada's first (and only) certified organic microbrewery. Growing everything from lettuce to pigs to hops, the farm itself supports maintaining both heritage and unusual varieties on the farm and in the garden, promoting biodiversity and sustainability in their particular bioregion. The composted manure, spent grains and other brewery by-products are returned to the soil both in the hopyard and the garden.
All water comes from their own spring-fed wells that helps grow 7+ varieties on just over an acre, with all hops processed on-farm. The combination of the hard spring water and backbone of brewer, Brian MacIsaac, gives the beer a "genuine, old-world flavour". If that's not enough, the brewery prides in working towards a "total zero-waste system, with the farm and the brewery totally integrated to the benefit of both." Respect.
