Coffee Can Ice Cream

DIY IceCreamMaker.jpg

You don't really know how easy ice cream making really is until you try. Of course there are several modern, techy machines you can opt to go for, but we prefer the old-fashioned hand churned way. If you don't have a hand operated ice cream churner, make one. All you'll need is a small container (ideally of thin material that easily conducts temperature - coffee cans work great) inside of a larger container. With the small container in the larger one, fill the remaining gap with a ice and rock salt. Place your ice cream base ingredients into the small can, and mix consistently for 20-25 minutes, until you achieve a thick, creamy texture. At this point, add in any flavourings - Our favourites are ground hazelnuts, vanilla beans, salted caramel or fresh strawberries.

Ice Cream Base Recipe:  (Adjust the quantity to the size of your container)

1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup heavy cream
Pinch of salt
3 egg yolks
